  • These are some views of the past three cities I've visited this year: Xiamen, Phnom Penh, and Chiang Mai
  • Arrived to Chiang Mai safe and sound! Took some short night flights from Phnom Penh to enjoy some of the night scenes from the sky. I was also very thankful to already eat some local Khao Soi (northern Thailand dish) and visit the Starbucks I frequent each year during the annual education conference. I'm still often thinking about my friends and colleagues afraid to leave their homes. Hoping for a deeper peace and rest to conquer the fear and pain.
  • Happy Chinese New Year everyone! 新年快乐!! 😁🐭🧧🥟🎉🎆 I'm safe and healthy in Southeast Asia right now, but please keep China and people in China in your thoughts and prayers as the coronavirus is very threatening right now. Proper notices and support are in effect, but it will take time to resolve the whole issue. Many of my colleagues, students, and friends are currently affected by the issue as well as many, many more.
  • Stopped in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for a week before I continue to Thailand for some teaching meetings and workshops. I enjoy seeing more Chinese New Year decorations being sold here too. I'm thankful to be here with great friends and colleagues, and getting the chance to enjoy some local food, fruit smoothies, and nice coffee shops with good internet. This is my 6th visit to Cambodia, and I still enjoy walking around, observing the traffic, seeing the changes and development over the years, and taking in the architecture and design of the buildings and city.
  • Xiamen (厦门，Xiàmén), Part 2 We took a ferry to the smaller Gulangyu (鼓浪屿， Gǔlàngyǔ) island to tour more of the beautiful scenery, neat shops, and local food (mango flowers). Then we walked along a newly constructed skywalk that stretches over 23km of the main Xiamen island (~14 miles) and later visited the downtown walking street which even has a church that dates back to the mid-1800s. Then on the Chinese small new year (小年，xiǎo nián: start of the Chinese New Year season, Jan. 17th this year) we enjoyed a nice dinner of boiled, steamed, and fried Chinese dumplings along with some other cold dishes with great friends who live in Xiamen.
  • Visiting Xiamen, Fujian, China (厦门) with friends this week during the winter holiday in China. Taking trains, city buses, and taxis to arrive to our hostel in the city. Then went hiking a small mountain, ate local food, and toured the famous Xiamen University campus together. So far it's been great! Took over 1,500 pictures and videos and still have one more full day to explore and enjoy the area. 😁📷
  • Thankful to enjoy some good food with great friends and even trying out the new mall's rock climbing wall. My coworker who is teaching in Bolivia this year is home for the holidays and she joined us with her daughter which was also super fun! 😁
  • As the semester ends, I am thankful for the opportunity to teach so many wonderful students and good people! I had the privilege to teach and help in numerous departments and different majors, including Arabic majors, Applied English majors, Preschool Education majors, Tourism English majors, International Business majors, and even the Spanish majors (during activities). It has been such a joy and an honor. And I look forward to what lies ahead over winter holiday and into the spring semester, as we begin year 2020! 🎉
  • It was fun to spend one more lunch with these girls, knowing that their next step will be to become teachers themselves and begin teaching English and much more to the next generation of China. #PreschoolEducationMajors
